“Michelle Legro is at the center of a fast-spinning cloud of wonderful things. Her work appears in The Atlantic, in Nieman Storyboard, and on Brain Picker, and she’s the keen eye behind the memetically appealing My Daguerrotype Boyfriend. She also has, of all the editorial jobs in New York, one of the most simultaneously old-school and internetted, as associate editor and online editor at Lapham’s Quarterly.” —History and Its Contents | Contents Magazine (via rachelfershleiser)

you met macaulay culkin? please share your encounter :) (found you via twitter)

I went to a club where Culkin was listed as DJing, which actually meant he plugged his iPod into the speakers and drank at the bar. He has fairly bland taste in music. He wears a lot of rings.

The oddest part of the evening was when back-to-back Michael Jackson songs came on and we remembered that Culkin hung out with MJ as a child.

Also, there were crafts.

Beyonce Everywhere

My dashboard used to have things other than Beyonce on it…

“The sudden triumph of Fiona Apple’s return exists in the same cultural moment as people sharing photos of gay couples who’ve just been married, or female protesters (hilariously) trolling Rick Perry’s Facebook wall with questions about menstruation to protest his stance on reproductive health. It’s the thrill of voices dismissed as silly or excessive in the past now deriving power from the ordinary details of their everyday lives.” —

Lindsay Zoladz writes about Fiona Apple’s welcomed comeback in our latest feature story, “Mind Is Your Might”. (via pitchfork)

This is what we in the business like to call “a stretch.”

Top five favorite Bands/songs of all time?

That’s really hard to say, so to make it easier for myself I will answer really specifically and limit it to “bands,” ignoring electronic musicians, MCs, composers, singer-songwriters, solo acts, jazz musicians, etc.

So, bands. For the pantheon of “top” bands, Wilco, Radiohead, Pavement, Animal Collective are locks. I can’t make a convincing enough case for any other band to rise above the pack enough for number five, so it’s a rotating position — unless I can count Brad Mehldau’s original trio as a band.

Top five songs is impossible.
