Small Potatoes Challenge

spencerlewis:

I’ve been listening to that A Weather CD and that song small potatoes. Now I’ve looked the lyrics up online and I must say that I do not agree with them. Aside from a few missed words here and there my biggest problem is with the second verse. Now online it’s listed as “And if we shake as much /as California does/we’d be still less walking open”. Now first of all I don’t think that makes any sense (we’d be still less walking open?) and I also don’t think thats what it sounds like. I listened to it and I got “And if we shake as much/ as California dirt does/ would we be still ……..”

So let me know what you think. Let’s blog about this till we make some progress.

Odd, that you would bring this song up so early in your blogging life; apparently it is a song made for blogging (see my post August 18). I remember looking at that lyric for awhile when I was copying it over…and then just saying “fuck it” and keeping it as is. I really have no idea if that is what is said, but if it is, that is some good tumble-bumble imagery.

Drew Westen: What Obama Needs to Do in Denver → huffingtonpost.com

The audacity of Westen! The most insightful and lucid look back at the democratic party and hope for its future I have read all summer. Clarity the Obama camp would do well to aspire to.

A Weather- Small Potatoes

“Kittens become cats
if you’re not careful
you have to keep your eye on them

There was a time
when I
didn’t know you
and there’ll be a time like that again

And if we run as fast
as the earth moves
we’d be standing in one place

And if we shake as much
as California does
we’d be still less walking open

I can’t believe you said
I couldn’t love you anymore
Did you mean to no greater extent?
Or it’s over now for sure

That’s small potatoes
and I’m just
splitting hairs

If I can’t have this forever

I don’t want it at all

It’s hard to watch all your friends dying
and say something to make them laugh
I’m sick of all my careful planning
breaking like a wine glass

It’s hard to know which time’s the time right one
when to set your clocks back

I can’t believe you said
There’s nothing moving in this room
If your skin is this warm
then your heart’s pumping blood

That’s small potatoes
and I’m just
splitting hairs

If I can’t have this forever
I don’t want it at all

That’s small potatoes
and I’m just
splitting hairs
That’s small potatoes”

“It seems to me quite obvious that our country and the entire Western World is up against an existential foe…For some reason, nobody seems to be talking about who we’re up against, and the sixth century barbarism that they actually represent. These people saw people’s heads off. They enslave women, they genitally mutilate their daughters, they do not behave by any cultural norms that are sensible to us. I’m speaking into a microphone that never could have been a product of their culture, and I’m living in a city where three thousand of my neighbors were killed by thieves of airplanes they never could have built.” —Frank Miller on Frank Miller being a huge racist
